Natural gas that is mostly methane is generally lighter than air and may rise. LPG vapor is generally heavier than air and may collect at low points. Actual dispersion also depends on release pressure, temperature, ventilation, obstacles, and the gas mixture, so density alone is not enough to determine detector placement.
